Common questions
Do I need to freedive first?+
Yes. Spearfishing is 80% freediving ability and 20% gun skills, so if you cannot freedive yet, you will struggle. All our spearfishing courses and trips assume you can already freedive. Discover Freediving is the minimum, and we strongly recommend Wave 1.
What are FADs?+
FAD stands for Fish Aggregating Device, known locally as a "rumpon". These bamboo rafts are built by local fishermen and anchored in deep water offshore. Small fish shelter underneath them, which draws in the bigger predators we hunt, such as rainbow runner, mahi-mahi and wahoo.
What guns do we use?+
Wooden Andre spearguns, handmade in Bali to a very high standard. We have a range of sizes and set-ups, from short, easy-to-handle guns for beginners to longer, more powerful roller guns for experienced spearos.
Will I shoot a fish?+
We can't promise it, because success comes down to skill and a bit of luck. The more comfortable you are diving and holding still at depth, the better your chances. That's why we recommend doing a freediving course first, ideally Wave 1.
Can the restaurant cook my fish?+
Yes. The restaurant charges a small fee, paid directly to them, usually IDR 70,000 to 90,000.
